About Raptor Data

Founded in 2011 in Aberdeen, Scotland, Raptor Data was born from a shared vision between Dr. Colin McLean and Gordon Cowie: two entrepreneurs and scientists with deep roots in acoustics, signals and systems, sonar and musical acoustics. Their ambition was simple yet far-reaching: to rethink how data can be transmitted through the world’s most challenging and unpredictable environments.

From Drilling Innovation to Multi-Modal Communication

What started as a focused effort to develop high-speed drill-string telemetry quickly grew into something much bigger. As our core technologies advanced, it became clear the same underlying principles could unlock reliable communication across a wide range of non-conventional transmission media: including solids, fluids, plastics, composites and other materials found throughout wellbore and industrial systems.

Today, Raptor designs next-generation communication and data-acquisition systems that operate where traditional technologies fail. Our work spans acoustic-through-solids, acoustic through fluids, electromagnetic and inductive channels, enabling high-speed, high-reliability data transfer in the extreme environments where information matters most.

Our Team

At the heart of Raptor is a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers and technicians who are recognised leaders in acoustics, communications, AI and machine learning. Backed by extensive in-house test and verification facilities, our team designs, prototypes and validates systems built to the precision and robustness demanded by downhole, subsea and remote-environment operations.

Backed for the Long Term

Raptor’s growth is supported by a committed investor base, including our founders, management team and private investors, who share a long-term vision for transforming communication and diagnostics across the global energy sector. This support allows us to scale our research, accelerate product development and deliver technologies that improve operational efficiency, reduce emissions and support the industry’s transition to Net Zero.

Redefining What’s Possible

By combining proprietary algorithms, advanced signal processing, specialised hardware and software and AI/ML, Raptor is redefining what’s possible in downhole and remote-environment operations. We are transforming how subsurface information is captured, transmitted and interpreted. This enables faster, more confident decision-making across the energy sector.
